AWESOME ATHENS

We arrived here late last night by the slow ferry (8 hours) from Santorini via Naxos and Paros, two beautiful little islands that were bathed in the late afternoon sunlight.

Paros port as we left

There is something mysterious in arriving in a strange city late at night, the morning light brings some surprises. We found ourselves within slingshot of the Acropolis and the roof terrace here has some awesome views towards this amazing sight.

Roof top bar at our hotel

A morning spent on tour, all the obligatory sights for some further examination later.

Tha Panatheniac stadium where the Olympic torch was
handed to the Poms only days ago.

We traipsed the Acropolis within a sea of humanity disgorged by three massive cruise ships. It was a relief to sit down and consume some tasty rolls for lunch while our legs and backs recovered.

The Parthenon

The open theatre on the Acropolis - still used today for opera concerts.

Roger has been here many years ago, but I haven’t. I don’t quite know what I expected, but whatever it was, it has been exceeded by the actuality. It’s very user-friendly and easy-going. Loving it!

  1. I'd love to go to a concert there! I particularly like the photo of the bar, modern buildings, ancient ruin.

  2. Wow!
I'm glad it's not people rioting in all of your Greek pictures!
Enjoy every second & have an ouzo for me!
