Today was all about ANZAC. To be there was amazing, truely moving to be on the spot where so many gave their lives in what must have seemed to them to be an impossible feat.
Lone Pine was very emotional with so many graves and names of those that lost their young lives there. May we never forget the men who died there and those that went on to fight in other fronts and those who survived and came home forever changed.
Yes Tim, not only that but we got to get there and come home due to their sacrifices. It was so hard to comprehend that so many lives were lost there, the vegetation has grown and hidden the realities of war - it looked so peaceful and serene for a place that was the scene of such butchery.
It must be odd being in a tour bus at a place where so many people arrived by troop ship!

ReplyDeleteSo horrific! I read a biography of the Churchills, concentrating largely on Winston, and it made me very cross! Such a waste of life.
