Surprise night!

Some nights you go out for dinner with little expectations! Well, tonight was one of those. It's Sunday night, the street was almost empty, except for some slushy snow in the gutters as we left. Well rugged up in the cold, but the nearby restaurant that was our pre-determined destination closed! All of the nearby restaurants were closed too, so we soldiered on ... not far, but what appeared to be a steakhouse was open! OK, we thought, will have to do! Went in, sat down, the menu was surprisingly varied and we ordered. Some fish suited us both - Anne, in particular, because it was easy to manage with her crook wrist. It duly arrived, and we had started to imbibe some quite nice Pinot Noir - not a great match with the fish, but it did the job.

So, the meal and wine went well, there was a game of Gridiron going on in the background, but as the meal came to an end a nearby table became involved in a discussion with us that developed into an almost restaurant full involvement. It was a very close game that came down to the last few minutes and everyone, staff included, seemed to have a favourite. The game was won by a last gasp goal attempt that just skimmed the goal post without scoring! It brought the whole restaurant together as one! Mostly tourists from the US and us antipodeans. The spontaneity was great, we felt we were leaving friends by the time to go. We were served a surprise "Digestive" - Cream, maple syrup and Canadian whisky, underneath of which was the bill!

A note for our friends in the Chorale Francais in Wagga, we heard in the background music during the meal, a familiar version of Champs Elysees! We sang along but ever so quietly!

A short, tricky, walk in the icy conditions and we were safely home to our hotel and the Golden Globe awards and another early night!
